“Defiant”, awarded 3rd Place in Trees, Woods and Forest Category, International Garden Photographer of the Year Competition.
Excited to announce a photograph of mine received an award in the International Garden Photographer of the Year, coming third in the Trees, Woods and Forests category of the prestigious annual photography competition. I was amazed to find my photograph found it’s way into the final selection round, ahead of thousands of entries, and to recieve the nod from the judges and be placed in the top three. Especially given I only entered very last minute during a hectic house move – I almost forgot until the invite to the award ceremony and exhibition at Kew Gardens arrived.
A very frosty morning in Dorset during a deep hoarfrost, the ground and trees were coated in a brittle white layer of ice as far as you could see, it was bitterly cold but conditions for photography were, to put it mildly, insane. I was out pretty much all day in the subzero temperaturesand came away with some great photos.
This, along with the photographs from other winning photographers is now on display at Kew Gardens and will tour various botanical and National Trust gardens (see the IGPOTY site for details). If you can make it, definitely worth a look to see all the other great winning shots on display too.
